DSP and playlist pitching

Pitch the release clearly. Never promise the playlist.

Editorial consideration is earned by the music and decided by platform teams. Strong pitching supplies accurate context, a credible campaign and enough lead time—without fake guarantees.

Editorial pitching

Present relevant release context for independent consideration by DSP editorial teams.

Artist-led submission

Use Spotify for Artists to submit an eligible upcoming track and complete every useful field.

Campaign context

Connect the music to the audience, story, live activity and marketing that support the release.

No guarantees

Editors and platform systems control placement; legitimate partners cannot sell a result they do not control.

Not every playlist works the same way

Spotify has editorial playlists selected by its teams, personalised and algorithmic surfaces shaped by listener behaviour, and independent playlists run by third parties. The submission path, influence and risk are different for each category.

Community Music provides campaign-specific pitching to DSPs for releases delivered through the platform. That pitch can complement the artist's own Spotify for Artists submission, but it does not override editorial judgement or guarantee placement.

  • Describe the sound and genre accurately
  • Identify the strongest audience and territory signals
  • Explain the release story without empty superlatives
  • Include confirmed campaign and live activity
  • Deliver with enough time for review
  • Keep artist profiles and links current

Avoid shortcuts that put the catalogue at risk

Guaranteed placement, paid streams and unexplained traffic are warning signs. Artificial activity can distort audience data, waste campaign budget and expose music to platform enforcement. Ask every provider what they are actually buying and how listeners are reached.

A useful release strategy looks beyond one playlist. Profile conversion, saves, repeat listening, fan communication, live activity and a consistent catalogue can keep working after a temporary placement disappears.

Frequently asked questions

Can Community Music guarantee a Spotify playlist?

No. Community Music can pitch eligible releases and provide strategic guidance, but Spotify and other DSPs independently control their editorial decisions.

Should I also pitch through Spotify for Artists?

Yes. Artists should complete the official submission for an eligible unreleased track and provide accurate information. Distributor or label pitching may add campaign context but does not replace the artist submission.

Is paying for playlist placement safe?

Treat guaranteed placement or streams as a serious warning sign. Ask how the service operates and avoid anything involving artificial listening, undisclosed incentives or results the seller cannot legitimately control.

What makes a useful DSP pitch?

Clear genre and mood information, the artist and release story, credible audience signals, campaign plans, priority territories and enough lead time are more useful than broad claims that a song will be huge.
